Vintage postcard illustrated by the Tichnor Brothers in the 1930s-40s, of the historic "The DeSoto" hotel in Savannah, GA. The Savannah Hotel Corporation bought the site in 1879, where it stands today, after realizing Florida was a popular vacation spot. The idea was to make Savannah a destination in it's own right, and opened its doors on New Year's day in 1890. It had 300 guest rooms, a well swimming pool, a lighted mini golf course, a solarium, a barber, and a soda shop. The style was a blend of Richardson Romanesque and Queen Anne-style architecture. The hotel served hollywood superstars and US Presidents, and it was in the center of Savannah's social life at the time.
